Assessment of Farmland Feasibility for Rainfed Agriculture Aug. 2022

Ensuring access to farmland is one of the major challenges facing the Borno State government as it carries out an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) relocation program. This program aims to transfer IDPs from camps in and around Maiduguri, the state capital, to their towns of origin or government-designated safe locations.

Agriculture and other agro-allied ventures constitute the main source of income for most people in Borno State. Over 12 years of armed conflict in northeast Nigeria has gradually diminished people’s access to arable lands for farming

The Borno State government proposed the establishment of mega-farms in Jere local government area (LGA) and the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council in 2020.
